It shouldn't feel impossible to achieve healthy skin because it isn't! I break it down into 4 tips that will make it easy as pie. Enjoy! Tip #1 Keep your skin care routine simple and don’t over do it. It’s easy to think that washing your face a lot is better for it because it will be very clean. Stop! Cleaning your skin too aggressively can irritate it, which leads to unwelcome redness. Ideally, you wash your face twice a day with products absent of allergens and fragrances. You just want to remove the dirt, product, oil, and gunk from your skin. Tip #2 Create a complete skin care routine covering the four steps of Complete Skin Care: Cleanse, Correct, Hydrate, and Protect. The cleansing step should be simple and get the dirt and oil off your skin. The other, three steps require more thought depending on your skin-care needs. Correcting your skin concerns should be a priority. This is the step that will focus on solving acne, crepey skin, redness, inflammation, sun damage, stimulating collagen, etc. Hydrating your skin isn’t as complex as the “Correct” step, but there are certain requirements. You should use moisturizers with a balance of oils, water-binding ingredients (i.e. glycerin, hyaluronic acid) and oil replacers like ceremid. For the best results, apply moisturizer after toweling your skin dry to capture that moisture. In order to effectively protect your skin, I suggest using a broad spectrum and (ideally) zinc-oxide mineral-based sunscreen. Apply this 365 days a year to protect your skin and the hard work you are investing into your skin. Tip #3 Avoid exposing your skin to allergens. Prioritize hypoallergenic products to reduce rashes and allergic reactions. This means avoiding fragrances (Yes, even natural fragrances) in your body and home care products. Tip #4 Keep your body healthy! The first part of this tip is to eat a healthy diet full of vitamins, phytonutrients, fiber, and antioxidants (fruits, veggies and whole foods). Ensure you ingest lots of water daily and create smart snacks like carrot sticks and fruit instead of chips and candy. If you are combatting a specific skin concern, do some research to see what diet is best for you. Another part of keeping your body healthy is regular exercise! After you exercise, your body will feel and look more radiant. It also keeps you looking fit. Other tidbits: Get plenty of sleep (lack of sleep is hard to hide and gives a sallow complexion), manage stressors (as stress can lead to various, unhealthy skin conditions) and don’t forget to socialize (being social keeps you happy, and when you’re happy, your skin looks more radiant).
